The GISP certification (Geographical Information System Professional) has been going for a while in the USA – http://www.gisci.org/.
Recently ESRI have released a technical certification program (similar to that which Microsoft and other major software players have) – http://training.esri.com/certification/
These articles (here and here) explain the differences between GISP and ESRI Tech Cert and why there are both valuable in the workplace…and more importantly why they complement each other. What do you think? Are you a GISP or are you thinking of taking an ESRI Technical Certification? Let us know!
Note that in the UK we have the CGeog(GIS) certification. I see this being entirely different to the ESRI Tech Cert and very worthwhile for your professional career. For more information on CGeog(GIS) go to http://www.rgs.org and http://www.agi.org.uk
